Event Description
West Virginia University Institute of Technology is proud to announce the fifth annual Otis K. Rice Lecture, to be held on September 26, 2013. The Otis K. Rice Lecture series brings scholars to the campus of WVU Tech and Montgomery, WV community to discuss and educate on current and historical topics within the humanities that are pertinent to the region, state, and world.

The 2013 presentation by Dr. Barkey will provide the audience with information about the people, events, and issues that constitute an important chapter in the history of the United States as well as provide specific insights into issues of labor studies, local history, and West Virginia studies. In conjunction with his 2002 article, "'Here Come the Boomer' Talys': Italian Immigrants and Industrial Conflict in the Upper Kanawha Valley, 1903-1917,” Dr. Barkey will discuss the influx of Italian immigrants into West Virginia during the early twentieth century.
