Event Description
On the occasion of Black History Month, the CECILIA ROLLINS BROWN BAG LUNCH FILM & DISCUSSION SERIES will present the film "Delwende - Leve-toi et Marche" ("Get up and Walk") on Thursday, February 20 at 1:30 PM in the Gluck Theatre. "Delwende - Leve-toi et Marche" ("Get up and Walk") is a West African drama, written and directed by S. Pierre Yameogo. The film is based on real events and looks at a single village in the midst of change - change that reveals people's cruelty, their fixation on being right, and the clash between modernity and traditional beliefs. Yameogo uses deceptively sparse language to tell a riveting story about a mother and her daughter, and focuses on the injustice of some traditional African practices and women’s struggle for equality. In French, with English subtitles.
