Cecilia Rollins Brown Bag Film & Discussion Series: "Chisholm '72: Unbought and Unbossed"
Start Date: 3/4/2014Start Time: 7:00 PM
End Date: 3/4/2014End Time: 9:00 PM

Event Description
On the occasion of Women’s History Month, the WVU Office of Multicultural Programs and the Office of International Student Affairs and Global Services, will host a CECILIA ROLLINS BROWN BAG FILM AND DISCUSSION on Tuesday, March 4, 2014 at 7 PM in the Mountainlair’s Gluck Theater titled “Chisholm '72: Unbought & Unbossed.”

A compelling documentary by Shola Lynch, the film takes an in-depth look at the 1972 presidential campaign of Shirley Chisholm, the first black woman elected to Congress, and the first to seek the nomination for President. It is the story of the fight for inclusion, and follows Chisholm from the announcement of her candidacy through her historic speech in Miami at the Democratic National Convention. Shunned by the political establishment and the media, Chisholm was a longtime champion of marginalized Americans and asked for support from people of color, women, gays, and young people newly empowered to vote at the age of 18.

This film will be presented by Brendan Muckian-Bates, GTA in Women's & Gender Studies. The event is free and open to the public. Pizza will be served on a first come, first served basis.
