The Appalachian Scholars Contest celebrates the diverse voices and scholarship of WVU students. Open to all majors, the contest invites submissions that connect with the Appalachian region through creativity, storytelling, and research. Whether you write poetry, short fiction, personal narratives, or scholarly essays, this is your chance to share work that highlights Appalachian experiences, challenges, and perspectives. Winners will receive $300, receive an awards certificate, be recognized during Mountaineer Week, and be featured on the SpeakWrite website.
