Army Scholarship Program Helps Fund Medical, Veterinarian, Dental and Nurse Practitioner Schools

Informational overview will be held April 9th for all interested students

For many students, the cost of post-baccalaureate medical schooling is a deterrent to not even apply. However, the U.S. Army’s Health Professions Scholarship Program (HPSP) can provide tuition assistance and monthly stipends to make someone’s dream of becoming a doctor, dentist, or veterinarian a reality.

There will be an HPSP Overview on Tuesday, April 9, at 6 p.m. in Bennett Tower (classroom G05) to provide information on how this program pays for medical school in exchange for future service as an Army physician.

Benefits of the HPSP program are: 100% tuition, $2,700+ monthly stipend (10.5 months/year), $20,000 accessions bonus, no malpractice insurance required, commissioning as a second lieutenant while in school and advancement to captain upon graduation. Applicants must be a U.S. citizen (born or naturalized) to qualify for the scholarship opportunity.

The information will cover future medical internship selection, service requirements, duty assignments and general life as an Army physician, dentist, nurse, or veterinarian.

All students with aspirations of these various medical careers are invited to attend to explore the options and requirements. ROTC pathways will also be discussed for freshman and sophomore students as well. Current medical and dental school students are encouraged to attend as one-, two- and three-year scholarships are available for current students.

RSVP to John Dowling at john.dowling@mail.wvu.edu if you intend to attend or have questions. Seating is limited to 110 participants so please RSVP. Parking is available in Lot 50 behind Towers (free after 4 p.m.).
