The idea struck a chord and the first modest order of 200 calen dars were printed featuring the image of an 1880’s Cleveland\, Ohio made banjo by J. French. The promotion proved so popular that from 2010 to 202 3 a unique calendar featuring an unusual instrument from the Smakula colle ction was published. With the exception of 2014.\n\nThe letter press style of printing uses movable type that is carefully set up to produce the ima ge. The earliest of the Smakula calendars featured hand carved printers bl ocks. Later\, with some of the more complicated musical instrument image s\, laser engraved blocks were used to replicate the detail.\n\nThe exhibi t will feature a selection of the calendars\, the custom printer blocks\, and the actual instruments featured on the calendars.
