About this Event
62 Morrill Way, Morgantown, WV 26505
Seeking to buck the white male status quo, a group of women and LGBTQ+ journalists launch a news startup asking who’s been omitted from mainstream coverage, and how to include them.
Join the Reed School of Media and Communications for a screening of "Breaking the News," a documentary about the launch of The 19th newsroom, followed by a discussion with Candice Norwood, a reporter for the nonprofit, independent news organization.
Norwood covers general and breaking news, with a focus on courts and criminal justice. In her time with The 19th, she has covered the nomination of Justice Ketanji Brown Jackson to the U.S. Supreme Court and the effects of policing and mass incarceration on women, LGBTQ+ people and families. Before The 19th, she was a digital politics reporter for the PBS NewsHour, a staff writer for Governing magazine covering state and local government, and a freelancer for the Bloomberg News White House team. She is a native of St. Louis, Missouri, and a graduate of The University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign and American University.
