Overview

This two-part workshop introduces faculty and instructors to practical tools and methods for building a virtual makerspace that complements classroom learning and physical labs. The sessions draw on the proposal “Collaborative Makerspace-to-Classroom and Manufacturing Integration: Low-Cost Virtual Learning and Production Labs”, which integrates accessible simulation and design tools to enrich modern manufacturing education.

Session 1 – Introduction to Virtual Makerspace Tools
Thursday, November 6, 2025, 1:00 PM – 2:15 PM
Evansdale Library G01 (Evansdale Campus)

• Overview of free and low-cost digital tools for design, simulation, and production.
• Demonstrations of a variety of accessible digital design, simulation, and virtual lab platforms, such as virtual and augmented reality welding.
• Discussion on how these tools bridge classroom concepts with real-world applications in makerspaces.

Session 2 – Applying Tools and Gathering Feedback
Thursday, November 13, 2025, 1:00 PM – 2:15 PM
Evansdale Library G01 (Evansdale Campus)

• Hands-on exploration: participants will experiment with selected tools introduced in Session 1.
• Small-group activities to simulate workflows (CAD design, virtual machining, virtual and augmented reality welding, 3D printing and laser cutting simulation, etc.).
• Feedback session: participants share insights on the potential of virtual makerspaces to enhance teaching and student engagement.
