This recital will feature six works by or for Appalachian artists, including two world premiere's, Shanyse Strickland's "More Than a Man" and current WVU student Aiden Swan's "A Winter Storm."

The first half is a programmatic journey into Appalachia, and the second half offers three contrasting works which honor traditional styles, evolve centuries-old folklore, and explore the deep, emotional connections to place and belonging.

This performance is presented in partial fulfillment of the requirements for the Doctor of Musical Arts degree at West Virginia University.
