Pediatric Project DOCC (Delivery of Chronic Care) is a virtual, two-hour workshop that gives learners the opportunity to work in teams with students of other disciplines to better understand the issues involved in providing care for a child with special health care needs and the importance of putting the family at the center of the health care system.

Objectives

  • Understand the challenges families face with children/youth with special health care needs (CYSHCN).
  • Validate the importance of active listening in patient- and family-centered care.
  • Compare the ideal and the reality of the medical home as experienced by these families.
  • Explore the importance of the roles professions play in collaborative practice.
  • Practice communication skills to become comfortable speaking with patients and families.
