Free depression screenings are being offered at several locations across campus. Students can go to any of the locations to do a short self-assessment and get information related to depression.

Major depression is one of the most common mental illnesses, affecting one in every four college students. This is the time of the semester when midterms, academic stress, and work and life demands cause students to feel overwhelmed. Screenings are often a first step in helping to identify symptoms that might look different from our normal stressors and get help if needed.

Who Should Get Screened? Anyone consistently:

  • Feeling sad, anxious, or "empty.”
  • Sleeping too little, early morning awakening, or sleeping too much.
  • Experiencing a reduced appetite and weight loss, or increased appetite and weight gain.
  • Experiencing loss of interest or pleasure in activities once enjoyed.
  • Experiencing restlessness or irritability.
  • Having difficulty concentrating, remembering or making decisions.
  • Experiencing fatigue or loss of energy.
  • Having thoughts of death or suicide.
