The Potomac State College-Community Concert Band, under the direction of Dr. Brian Plitnik, will perform a concert on Tuesday, April 16, 2024, at 7:30 p.m. in the Church-McKee Arts Center auditorium. The PSC-Community Concert Band consists of talented college students, high school students, and members of the surrounding communities who all share a love of music. The repertoire for this concert will include:
Festive Overture by Dmitri Shostakovich
Sòlas Ané by Samuel Hazo
Episodes for Band by Jim Roderick
Carnival of Venice by Herbert Clarke (featuring Dr. Neal Corwell, euphonium)
To Challenge the Sky and Heavens Above by Robert W. Smith
La Belle et le Capitaine by Frank Ticheli
Big Band Signatures arranged by John Higgins
Olympic Fanfare and Theme by John Williams
Episodes for Band will be the world premiere of a new composition by retired band director and local musician, Jim Roderick. The piece is dedicated to Charlie Whitehill, former Potomac State College music faculty and founder of the PSC-Community Concert Band. Carnival of Venice will feature euphonium soloist Neal Corwell, who formerly served as euphoniumist with the prestigious “Pershing’s Own” United States Army Band in Washington, DC.
This concert is free and open to the public. Providing cultural experiences for the community helps to fulfill the broader Potomac State College mission statement to "Enhance the well-being and quality of life for the campus community, people in West Virginia, and the broader service region of the College."
