About this Event

Online platforms, ranging from dating applications to social networking sites, enable people to connect with others as they seek a variety of relationships—including sexual and romantic connections. Kathryn D. Coduto, assistant professor of media science in the Department of Mass Communication, Advertising, and Public Relations at Boston University, will discuss the importance of understanding how users’ perceptions of both the technology and their online partners evolve. Questions related to online dating and sexting are explored via multiple methods, including quantitative survey methods and in-depth qualitative analysis. Implications for romantic relationship formation, maintenance, and termination, as well as ethical concerns, will be discussed.
