What is Tech-In-A-Day?

If you're interested in getting your ham radio license, Tech-In-A-Day is the WVU Amateur Radio Club's streamlined seminar and examination session which covers all the essential knowledge to earn your amateur radio Technician license. The seminar runs from 9 AM to noon, followed by an all-expenses-paid lunch before testing begins at 1 PM. For current license holders, feel free to sign up for a license upgrade as well! Steps to pre-register are below.

INSTRUCTIONS:

• COMPLETE THIS FORM: This information is required for us to coordinate your fancy new license with the FCC. You must register for an FRN; video instructions are included in the form.
• Come to TIAD! Attend the class starting at 9 AM, or study on your own and only come for the exam at 1 PM.
• Pass the licensing exam and receive your license. Upon a successful examination, you must pay $35 to the FCC through their online portal. Licenses are typically processed within the week.

Studying

While we do try to teach the essentials, we also strongly recommend that you study the material beforehand to ensure you’re prepared to pass the exam. Fortunately, there are many free, online resources to do so. We primarily recommend hamstudy.org! It's free, easy to use, and doesn't require an account; just go to the site, select the license class you’d like to test for, and click study. It has the EXACT question pool that the exams are generated from, but the specific questions listed on your actual exam will vary.
